Vintage Spilled Strawberries Still Life Oil Painting, Wicker Basket, Carved Gilt Frame

An original oil still life: a wicker berry basket overturned, strawberries tumbling out across a dark tabletop and a near-black ground. Simple, direct brushwork, no arranged bouquet, no staged light, just fruit caught in the act of spilling. The red of the berries is the only warmth in an otherwise shadowed composition.

Set in a substantial carved giltwood frame, reeded, beaded, with acanthus-leaf corners, the kind of frame chosen because the painting mattered to whoever hung it, not because it was fashionable. No provenance on the artist, and we like it that way.

It reads equally well in a farmhouse kitchen or beside contemporary furniture, a small, domestic subject that doesn't ask the room to be formal.
