Pat McCarthy White Dog Oil Painting on Antique Florentine Board

A wonderfully charming original oil painting by Pat McCarthy, depicting a fluffy white dog lounging on an exuberant deep-red cushion.

McCarthy’s expressive brushwork gives the little dog tremendous personality, from its bright, alert eyes to the wonderfully loose, feathery strokes that describe its fur. The unexpected combination of the vivid crimson cushion, muted sage-green interior, and colorful upholstered chair gives the painting a wonderfully collected, slightly whimsical character.

The work is painted on antique Florentine board, an especially appealing foundation that adds to the object's sense of history and materiality. It is presented in an ornate, aged gilt frame with elaborate classical detailing and beautifully worn areas of gold and patina.

Signed “P. McCarthy” in the lower right.

This is exactly the kind of small-scale, personality-filled painting that works beautifully in a gallery wall, bedroom, library, reading nook, or collected cottage interior.
