A good retrieve comes back slower than it went out. The dog knows he’s carrying something, and he wants you to see it.
This one has made that walk before. Maybe across a clearing on the first cold Saturday of the season. Maybe toward a kitchen door where someone was already setting out the old towel. Maybe for a boy who’d been allowed to come along for the first time.
It doesn’t just show a spaniel with a bird. It shows the walk back, which was always the best part.
Spaniel with Pheasant, Original Oil. Signed lower right, P. McCarthy. Distressed wood frame with an ornate silver-gilt liner. 16.5" x 16.5".
For the house that still keeps an old towel by the back door. #followthefeeling @tallmadge_ave_vintage
