A 7" x 9" original watercolor by Pat McCarthy: a small grey rabbit standing up in a red transferware beaker, front paws over the gold rim. The pattern is red willow chinoiserie painted freehand, the pagoda, the fence, the little figures crossing the bridge, in that warm rose-red you find on old English transferware.
Framed in a gold beaded frame with a cream mat. Signed P. McCarthy. One of a kind.
Red transferware was everyday china once, stacked in a cupboard and used without ceremony. McCarthy set a rabbit in it and made it a portrait. Small enough for a shelf or a tight gallery wall, and hard to walk past.
