A wonderfully charming vintage dog portrait by Pat McCarthy, depicting a black-and-white spaniel lounging on a stone ledge.
The expressive little dog is painted with loose, visible brushwork against a muted sage-green background, with a warm brick-toned horizon adding a beautiful touch of color. The painting is surrounded by an exceptional antique-style frame in distressed ivory and aged gilt, with elaborate scrolling foliage, beaded borders, and beautifully weathered patina.
We love the juxtaposition of the somewhat formal, highly decorative frame with the wonderfully soulful expression of the dog. It feels equally at home in a collected New York apartment, a country house library, or tucked into a gallery wall of vintage animal portraits.
