Every den had a pair of ducks somewhere, up on the shelf above the good chair, mid-takeoff and going nowhere, part of the furniture of somebody's afternoons.
This pair are Shafford mallard drakes, made in Japan: green heads, white collars, wings caught in the second before flight, each one glazed by hand on its own rocky base.
They don't do anything. They just hold a corner and make a room feel a little more like a place you remember.
