A 10" x 6" original oil by Pat McCarthy, painted onto an octagonal Florentine giltwood plaque: a white rabbit lying full-length in profile against a soft grey ground, front paws stretched forward, entirely at ease. No cup, no china, just the animal, painted straight and tender, the way you'd paint someone you knew.
The plaque's cut corners and tooled gold border are part of the piece. Signed P. McCarthy. One of a kind.
Most of the set puts a rabbit in porcelain and has fun with it. This one drops the joke and paints the rabbit plainly, and it's the more affecting for it. A small, warm oil for a shelf, a bedside, or the center of a gathered wall.
