Pair of Melon Botanical Prints after George Brookshaw, Silver-Gilt Frames, 12.5" x 15.5"

Two fruit prints that belong together. One is a ribbed, speckled melon with a wedge cut out to show the coral flesh, a broad leaf on either side and a sprig of yellow flowers above. The other is a striped watermelon cut open the same way, under a bristly vine with curling tendrils and yellow blossoms. Each sits on a grey slab, and each carries the old engraved caption under the image: Painted by the Author G. Brookshaw, published by Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme & Brown, Paternoster Row, and John Lepard, Strand.

They're later reproductions after George Brookshaw's Pomona Britannica, framed under glass in matching silver-leaf frames with a gold inner lip and a speckled, crackled finish. Kraft-paper dust covers, sawtooth hangers and felt bumpers on the back.
