Hubley Cast Iron Wire Fox Terrier, Original Paint, 5.5"

A wire fox terrier in cast iron, standing square with his tail straight up and his head turned, the way they stood for the judges. The paint is original: cream over the body, black on the head and ears and a black saddle on his back, worn through all over to the dark iron underneath so he looks speckled.

Hubley cast its iron dogs in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in the 1920s and '30s, when the wire fox terrier was the most fashionable dog in America. They were made as doorstops and as figures for the mantel and the desk, and they were meant to be handled.

Hubley Cast Iron Wire Fox Terrier, original paint. Standing. 5.5" tall. Extensive paint loss overall with the iron showing through, as shown; no breaks or repairs found. Heavy.

For the terrier people, and anyone who likes a thing that's been loved hard. #followthefeeling @tallmadge_ave_vintage
