A charming original oil painting by Pat McCarthy depicting a small, expressive Shih Tzu resting comfortably on a warm ochre-colored surface.
McCarthy captures the personality of the dog with loose, painterly brushwork—the soulful eyes, shaggy black-and-white coat, and slightly quizzical expression give the little portrait tremendous character.
The painting is presented in an ornate antique gilt frame with layered Greek-key and scalloped detailing, distressed cream accents, and beautifully aged gold. The frame has visible wear, patina, and imperfections that contribute to its collected, timeworn appeal.
The work is signed “P. McCarthy” at lower right and is painted on antique Florentine board, giving this small painting an especially wonderful sense of history and materiality.
A terrific little piece for a gallery wall, bedside table, library, bar, entryway, or dog lover's collection.
